What to Wear

"I am never one to pass up an opportunity to trot out my fashion sensibilities and this Ronald McDonald Polo Extravaganza is no exception to my rule! I'm opting for florals in dress shapes of the 'Madmen' era. For those of you not familiar with the AMC televsion show, it is set in the 1960's and the women's dresses flatter the female hourglass figure. You can swing that direction or go for the easy to wear 'maxi' dress that socalite Byrdi Bell models in this light-hearted polkadot print. Think light, airy and comfortable as you plan out your dress for the day.
Things to remember when assembling your ensemble:
You will be treading on grass all day, so unless you want to aerate the lawn in your 4" stilletos, I suggest a fashionable pair of ballet flats, or for those that are inclined to add some inches, a comfortable wedge heel. I vote for a cork or woven heel which pairs with the summer like a crisp, citrus, white wine pairs with the summer heat.
Consider the heat and wear breathable fabrics. You may really, really, really want to wear a silk cocktail dress, but you will be looking for worse for the weather if the day turns out to be hot hot hot. Buy a dress that is breathable and grab a light cardigen or drapy wrap in the event that the evening brings cool weather.
Whether at the races or a polo match, hats are of the moment. They come in all shapes and sizes but may I suggest some of the fashionable feather/netting vintage inspired pieces that are very en vogue now. Take a look at the images I've selected and do your own research. Seize the opportunity to buy (or create on your own) a head piece that you would otherwise never wear. Trust me when I say, this is the time and the place to exercise your fashion eccentricities. These dainty lovelies are for everyone of every age group and you can find one at every...price point!

Steer clear of heavy winter fabrics or accessories for example, black patent leather (unless in the form of a barely there sandal) or velvet or satin anything and instead look for light linens, florals, polkdots and chiffon.
And lastly, fashion (in my opinion) is at least 75% of the event, so don't hold yourself to too many rules. No need to be matchy matchy. Your purse need not match your shoes and your belt. Wear what makes you feel good...and take it up a notch! Place your money on the accessory that will make a statment for the day!
